Today, it’s just a parking space.... But what could it be?
Every September, people around the world turn metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces for a day: temporary parklets, creative interventions and social spaces.
For two years, Pitt's Center for Creativity and Department of Parking, Transportation, and Services have teamed up to sponsor a University PARK(ing) Day event. This year, PARK(ing) Day marks the kickoff of Pitt’s Year of Creativity!
How can your department, school, or center transform an ordinary parking space? Create a stage and fill it with performances? Build a temporary interactive art installation? Design a meditative space, or a mini making studio, or a gym? The possibilities are limited only by your imagination, and by a few creative constraints: everything must be temporary (think chalk, not paint) and cleaned up at the end of the day, there’s no access to electricity, and you have a space approximately 8’ x 18’ to work with.
PARK(ing) Day 2019 is Friday, Sept. 20, and we’ll be transforming the space along Schenley Drive in front of Hillman and Posvar from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The day will end with an appearance by the Provost to ring in 2019-20 officially as Pitt’s Year of Creativity!
